USD 204 is proud to celebrate our amazing educators in partnership with the Bonner Springs Edwardsville Area Chamber of Commerce! 🌟 For the month of January, we recognized Shannon Pederson from Head Start as the Teacher of the Month! 🎉
Shannon has been a dedicated staff member in USD 204 since November 2021, serving as a Head Start preschool teaching assistant. Throughout her time in the district, she has been a nurturing and supportive presence for our youngest learners, helping to lay a strong foundation for their educational journey.
For Shannon, education was a natural transition after working with her own children at home. “After having kids of my own and working with them on their learning, it just felt right to step into an education setting with younger kids—and it has been perfect.”
The most rewarding part of her day? The love and hugs she receives from her preschool students. “Teaching preschool-aged kids is so rewarding, and they remind me of that every day!”
Teaching in USD 204 is special for Shannon, not only because she works with such dedicated educators but also because of her personal connection. “My kids started attending the district before I worked here, and we have always loved it. The teachers and staff truly invest in their students and meet them where they are.”
Shannon also appreciates the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville community for its welcoming spirit. “I grew up in a small rural town in South Dakota, so moving here and finding that same small-town feel—with the bonus of being close to the city—has been really special.”
Shannon was honored at the January Chamber luncheon, where she received her Teacher of the Month award. A big thank you to our local businesses and community supporters for recognizing our educators and fostering strong connections between our schools and community. 🎉

Watching Ms. Jeri shovel the playground was the highlight of this morning's recess! 😂

Our playground still had ice on it so we are trying to switch up our indoor recess games. Hot Potato and Musical Chairs were a total win! ⭐️

Despite the hard work of our district crews and city officials, some of our parking lots, sidewalks, and many side streets remain unsafe for students and staff to return. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no school tomorrow, January 8th. This extra time will allow road conditions to continue improving and give crews the opportunity to ensure the areas around our facilities are safe for everyone.
Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize safety. Stay safe and warm, BRAVES!
